Rapid acrylamide detection in drinking water
Water treatment
Background

Acrylamide is a highly water-soluble compound and its level in drinking water is regulated in many geographies. The WHO guidelines for drinking water provide a limit of 0.5 ppb for acrylamide.

What we're looking for

Current methods for analysis of acrylamide in water are costly, time- and effort-intensive, and results are available only after the water has been distributed for use. We would like a faster, less labor-intensive, and accurate method that can give us results in real time.

Our must-have requirements are:
  • Limit of quantification of low single-digit ppb
  • Minimal upfront and on-going costs - significantly cheaper than current methods (<$10 per test)
Our nice-to-have's are:
  • Limit of quantification = WHO limit of 0.5 ppb
  • Window of time ≤ 15 mins (Max) for testing
  • Capability to integrate with Laboratory Information Management system
  • In-line measurement capability
  • Green chemistry (avoiding use of harmful chemicals in the testing process)
  • Simple to use by plant personnel (similar to other water quality tests)
  • Accuracy of 0.5 ppb
